Tim Cahill About To Run With the Red Bulls

Bit of a personal note here.

Tim Cahill was very much the reason that Everton FC is a frequent watch at TSG headquarters. The now 32-year-old who joined the Toffees in 2004 epitomizes the club.

In his younger days, he had the perfect concoction of two parts lunchpail, one part creativity that made him perhaps one of the most complete squad players anywhere in the Prem.

Now? Headed to the New York Red Bulls of MLS. Will he be a DP? Who goes? And does this seal Tim Howard’s arrival back in the former land of the Metrostars in three years time?

Because New York needed that absolutely vital fourth striker.

Impartial to Cahill for sure. That said, he gives them some defensive integrity ahead of McCarty. He’s extremely selfless and he can play the middle of the pitch when Henry wanders.

Red Bulls are already paying 13 million in salaries this year. Add Cahill’s 50k a week to that.

Compare that to the Columbus Crew you pay around 3 million.

the good news is MLS is ditching this parity nonsense. Parity may work in sports like American football(I don’t even think it works there) but it’s a terrible thing to force upon a soccer league. Soccer is a global game and clubs shouldn’t be held back all in the name of parity.

Now if we can just get rid of this salary cap.
