The Weekend: Live Commentary

All eyes on Brad Friedel this weekend as the American at Spurs; not Clint Dempsey.

I jump high too…

  1. Think it’s also important to note that Mike Bradley and Roma face Cagliari. This means Bradley may be going one on one with the talented Radja Nainngolan. Should be an interesting match up.

Is he back from injury? He wasn’t in the 18 in Roma’s loss last week, correct?

Fortune does for RBNY what Backe lacks the discipline to do.

Whats with the camera angle at White Hart Lane today? I feel like I’m watching an Indiana basketball game at Assembly Hall or a game at Goodison. Moths flying in front of the camera..

When is an Aston Villa coach going to figure out Eric LIchaj is a right back? On the left he is competent at best. On the right he can be extremely dangerous in the attack with his pace, interchange, and delivery (see Paraguay and Colombia games) and a stand up defender.

    • I don’t think Lambert, who is pretty highly regarded, forgot to evaluate Lichaj.

Lambert took over Villa, looked over his team and one of the first things he did was sign a new right back, Lownton.who is currently the starter. Then he brought in a new left back, whose name I forget.

Lichaj is currently the starting left back but everything I’ve seen and read seems to indicate that Lichaj is on a short leash. They seem to value him but mostly because of his versatility ( he can play any of the back four slots and anywhere in midfield as well).

Nah, I think they did. Aston Villa’s been trying awfully hard not to play Lichaj, who generally looks like he should be a starter with them or some other EPL team. It’s been comical to watch Marc Albrighton reiterate every six months or so “HEY ERIC LICHAJ’S A GOOD PLAYER YOU SHOULD PLAY HIM!!!!”

I hope Cameron at RB was just a one match trial due to the suspension- he looks so much better in the center (at midfield or CB)

Watched replay and decided to peruse Stoke fanboy site (aka. Oatcake) during replay. Albeit a non-existant sample size, Stoke fan(s): 1. Appreciated Cameron at RB and 2. Actually found his 100 mph cross into the face of teammate (which nearly remotely scored) humorous. Wonder if Stoke could somehow refine his right-footed crossing skills? Seems like a great move for Cameron and his development. PS-Surf is up!

John Terry is retiring from international football to punish the FA for bringing him up on charges of racial abuse. It’s tough to find someone with more class than John Terry in the current game (internet sarcasm alert).

He’s not “punishing” the FA. They are bringing him up on racism charges even though he was cleared. The burden of proof required of the FA prosecutors, in their system, is far less stringent than the burden of proof he beat in his racism charges.

It’s a rigged game and Terry realises he will have no chance to clear himself. So all he is really doing, is jumping before he gets pushed.

Exactly ( and it smells like Armstrong’s strategy). And if he is cleared, he will “allow” Hodgson to talk him out of retirement.

        He is scum.

OT- Deuce looked comfortable against Lazio in Europa League play but Tottenham looks just as disconnected and uncomfortable as Chelsea did last year under the Portuguese leprechaun. Lots of above avg talent in the front 6 but little cohesion or unified approach. I understand its still early but after watching him mismanage the eventual CL winner (CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB!) last season.
I know this won’t go over big with many of the Bale lovers but in my watching over the years he is a terribly inconsistent player for the level of talent that he has. He dominates the ball for a period and then completely disappears from the game for very long stretches. A little bit of Robben-tude developing in him as well which doesn’t bode well for overall team unity.

On topic- as a long time Chelsea supporter I will not be unhappy when Terry hangs his boots up finally. A big gamer, a winner and all that in his prime but. like Ballack, he’s a hard player to root for. I think Cahill is the better man at this point for both club and country. Luiz on the other hand….oy….

Turn on TV, see Graham Zusi playing an incredibly ambitious pass.

DID YOU KNOW? Graham Zusi is American for, “Steven Gerrard.”
