USA-Czech Republic: Live Commentary

"Luke, I am your father."

‘You need to Czech yourself before you wreck yourself young man.’

Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to World Cup 2018 we go. The long road starts today. The youth are here to handle some business. Speaking of handling your business, you can get one of those fresh USMNT home kits for $67 right now, fully customized. Time to handle that business.

Who do you want to see out there in the red, white, and blue today? Green? Hyndman? Brek Shea to see if he is still alive?

Starting line-ups once they come out.

  1. Nice to see the 4/3/3. Obviously it is a case of average competition, but interested to see how well it links the transition between offense and defense as opposed to the 4-5-1 debacle in Brazil.

Hmm…five minutes in and it sure looks like 4-1-4-1 to me….

Pretty apparent that Corona and Mix are probably not the central midfield combo of the future based on the first 20 minutes.

Good work by Mix. I still think he’s a slightly awkward player as a focus point. He finds pockets of space and has a decent engine, but he’s not amazingly quick. His touch is good, but he isn’t at his best when the defense needs an outlet to get the ball out of their zone. That said, he finds a way to score and make things happen, no denying that.

Corona is completely out of his element. he is playing way too close to Mix. He’s not moving into space well. His touch is off. You can’t have a situation where John Brooks is your primary person carrying the ball across the halfway line.

Gyau looks good, though his final ball is lacking. Green has had good and bad moments. His corners we’re rough. But both guys are hurting on the offensive side from others not anticipating their runs. I guess that comes with time and chemistry. But Corona needs a little more foresight when distributing. And Bedoya just simply is better as true out and out winger. He doesn’t have the passing vision, IMO, to play behind the front 3.

Jozy isn’t at his best when he doesn’t have a forward to partner with. He just doesn’t have amazing movement and he drops too far back to receive the ball. Doesn’t help that he hasn’t been getting any minutes at the club level. That said, his holdup play has been pretty good. Its not his fault that he doesn’t have a ton of outlets.

All in all, good performance. Would love to see what Rubin and Hyndman can do.
