Winner Don’t Tread Challenge: The Confederation Cup: USA 2, Spain 0

Never need an excuse, or any excuse, to show the first winner of the TSG Don’t Tread Challenge Video Contest.

Still a keeper for many USMNT fans.

Three years ago today the US “flips the script and takes a pass at calling ‘Uncle'”

I think of the Winnie Cooper article- I wonder if we all make Charlie into something he wasn’t in our memories. If he never got hurt I think now with some hindsight he may have just plateaued like the rest of promising American strikers. Maybe not- I tell that to myself to feel better. I don’t see how he would fit in with the current system on the National Team though.

  2. This is probably my second favorite video of all time, behind the Donovan goal reaction video.

  3. Indeed awesome. But what I also hope is not forgotten was the truly unbelievable 3-0, 0-3 final game of the group stage.

Something about watching this makes me feel like USMNT was just more “fun” back then. Maybe it was just being on the brink of a WC and looking forward to that or just the benefit of hindsight, but nowadays USMNT viewing feels so tense and negatively charged and frustrating. Maybe that’s the price of expectations, but I guess we’ll always have this video.

I feel the exact opposite. There was an enormous amount of angst around the National Team heading into the Confed Cup. There were the mediocre/terrible performances vs. Costa Rica and Honduras. Then Italy crushes us and we are Beasley’d by Brazil. Everyone was wondering if Bob would be fired and if the team would even qualify for the World Cup. I was so angry I considered not even watching the Egypt game. Even after the miracle run in the Confed Cup, there was some bumbling through the rest of qualifying. The team just felt very unstable. I feel that all of the games since Scotland have killed the mood with the current team, but I still feel there is alot of hope going forward with this group.

I’m sorry I’m not trying to be a jerk, but I don’t think this video is very good. Video editing is my main hobby. I mean- I liked the VS commercial that the audio is taken from (Explosions In The Sky is one of my favorite bands), but that’s basically all it is- US/Spain highlights with the audio from the commercial slapped over top. It’s really distracting when the IRL car sounds are in the background. I guess I’ve always liked more “organic” USMNT videos that use personal footage from the supporter sections/crowd. That’s what I have always tried to do.

There is an awesome video on YouTube called “Dying Bravely.” That’s one of my favorites that someone else has done. It shows the USA getting FIFA’d over the years at the World Cup and then shows the journey through 2010. It uses some nice music from the Inception soundtrack I believe.
